First Ever 'National Feed a Rescue Pet Week' Begins Today

SEATTLE, July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- When Pluto the dog was abandoned at a pet rescue in South Florida, his back legs were paralyzed and he was unable to walk. But because of national non-profit GreaterGood.org's Rescue Bank program, which provides food donations to the rescue and hundreds of others across the country, the Florida shelter saves about $3,000 each month, allowing it to afford a special rehabilitation for Pluto. Now the miracle dog has overcome the odds and is walking again on his own. Animal cause industry leaders The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org are teaming up to help even more rescue pets like Pluto by launching the world's first ever 'National Feed a Rescue Pet Week,' taking place July 24-30, 2017.

The organizations are calling on pet lovers to help feed furry friends in need?and keep tails wagging across the country?during National Feed a Rescue Pet Week by visiting FeedARescuePet.com and donating to the cause. Just a $10 donation provides 400 meals for shelter and rescue pets and saves rescues $170 in food costs. Organizers aim to raise enough money during the holiday week to provide three million meals to animals across the country. The fundraiser is a celebration of The Animal Rescue Site's 15-year anniversary and GreaterGood.org's 10-year anniversary, both this year. 

"Rescue Bank's food donation program has a significant impact. By providing consistent and nutritious meals, rescues are able to free up scarce funds for vaccines, spay/neutering and other expenses needed for animal care," said Elizabeth Asher, Executive Director of the Rescue Bank program. "We are passionate about helping people who care for animals; we see the amazing work they do to save starved, abused and homeless animals. Providing food so they can save as many pets as possible drives us to do more every day."

No other charitable organization has fed as many rescue pets as GreaterGood.org's Rescue Bank, in partnership with The Animal Rescue site. Since 2007, the program has distributed more than 200 million meals to dogs, cats, and other animals in need and expects to surpass a quarter of a billion meals by year's end.
