Active Body, Inc. Receives Patent for New Wheelchair - Rollator Hybrid

ATLANTA, July 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Active Body, Inc., a startup in the Atlanta area, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued U.S. Patent 9,649,236 for a new and innovative wheelchair concept.   The patent relates to Active Body's design for a wheelchair-rollator hybrid featuring a robotic lift that will allow a wheelchair user to transition naturally to a standing position, where walking is facilitated in a supportive frame.

According to Active Body's president, Charles Wike, "this patent covers a new class of wheelchairs that encourages standing and walking for those who can still do so with some assistance.  Health benefits from continued ambulation are significant and well documented.  With the dramatic increase in the elderly population and the continued decline in the cost of robotic lift mechanisms, we believe that this concept will represent a significant market niche."
