U.S.-Russia Business Council Statement on Russia Sanctions Legislation

WASHINGTON, July 14, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dan Russell, President and CEO of the U.S.-Russia Business Council, the U.S.-based trade association representing the interests of large and small U.S. companies operating in the Russian market, issued the following statement today with respect to the ongoing debate in Congress over Russia-related sanctions provisions of S. 722:

"The U.S.-Russia Business Council recognizes the challenges that Members of both chambers face in developing an effective foreign policy response toward Russia.  We urge Members, however, to carefully consider provisions of the Senate drafted language that will hurt U.S. business more than they hurt Russia.  The competitiveness of U.S. companies in diverse sectors from manufacturing to services would be negatively impacted by the legislation as currently written.  The legislation would disadvantage U.S. companies operating in the Russian market relative to their Asian and European competitors.  The business community is confident that its concerns about U.S. competitiveness can be addressed with modifications to the bill to meet its underlying objectives without inflicting unintended harm on American companies and American workers."
