Renowned Holistic Vet Names 'Ruff On Bugs' an Effective and Safe Alternative to Spot-On Flea and Tick Products

MONTEREY, Mass., June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- While we all want to do the very best thing for our pets, the harsh chemical and spot-on treatments that are touted by their makers as the best method to keep away disease-ridden fleas and ticks are not the answer. The truth is the poison chemicals that actually kill these pests are first running through your entire pet's bloodstream and heart. A recent article by Internationally renowned holistic veterinarian, Dr. Deva Khalsa, in the April/May edition of Animal Wellness magazine cites that spot-on flea and tick products may do more harm than good.

The article states that the most commonly used chemicals used in these treatments are fipronil and imidacloprid and pyrethrins. Fipronil and imidacloprid have a host of toxic effects including thyroid lesions and cancer, kidney toxicity, kidney damage, convulsions, hair loss, labored breathing and muscle weakness. Pyrethrins, which are naturally occurring compounds from the chrysanthemum plant, are considered by many to be less hazardous, but the truth is quite the opposite. According to the article, the Center for Public Integrity (CPI) showed that, "at least 1,600 pet deaths from pyrethroid spot-on treatments were reported to the EPA from 2002 through 2007. That's nearly double the number of reported fatalities linked to the other compounds."

The bottom line is the pharmaceutical world has not yet come up with an effective flea and tick product that is not harmful to your pets. On top of that, studies show that fleas and ticks are developing resistances to these chemicals and creating the need for stronger and stronger dose recommendations.

The good news is there are now non-chemical, 100% organic products that are combining these essential oils to be just as effective as the chemical products, but without the potentially tragic side effects. Recommended by Dr. Khalsa as working "unfailingly and consistently," Ruff On Bugs is an essential oil based repellent made by animal lover and activist Terri See in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts (www.ruffonbugs.com).

According to Terri, "We all want to protect our pets, but we've been led to believe we can only do so by use of synthetics, that if it's not chemical, it's not good. Time and studies have proven differently. Ruff on Bugs' aim is protecting dogs, and we're also here to help to get the message out, to help others realize that the dangers these common 'protections' are very real and present."
