150 Indian companies to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada at Canada-India Business Symposium

TORONTO, June 7, 2017 /CNW/ - Friday, June 9, 2017 marks a milestone for Canada - India business relations with Canada 150 celebrations. The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission in India, the Consulate General of India in Toronto and the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber (ICBC) brings a day long Canada-India Business Symposium (CIBS) and a Business Expo at the Hyatt Regency in Toronto.

The High Commissioner for Canada to India, Mr. Nadir Patel, is leading a delegation of 150 Indian companies to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation of Canada or Canada 150. Mayor John Tory and Minister of International Trade, Honourable Michael Chan will be joining the symposium along side more than 200 hundred Canadian businesses that are expected to participate in the symposium and the expo, enrolment for which has already commenced.

Canadian business leaders and participants include, among others, Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, Co-founder and CEO of DataWind; Mr. Kerry Adler CEO of SkyPower Global; Mr. Iain Stewart, President, National Research Council; Ms. Isle Treurnicht, Chief Executive Officer of MaRS Discovery District. Prominent Indian corporate entities are part of the Indian delegation, which also includes important decision-makers such as Mr. Harsh Dhingra, Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation; Mr. Ashish Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange.

Speaking about the visit, High Commissioner Nadir Patel said: "Canada's commercial relations with India are growing at a strong pace, yet there remain significant opportunities for further growth and collaboration between Canadian and Indian companies. This visit will provide Indian companies with first-hand knowledge about Canada's strengths in various sectors and an opportunity to develop personal contacts with some of Canada's top companies, while at the same time bring the India opportunity to Canada." Both Mr. Patel and Mr. Vikas Swarup, High Commissioner of India to Canada, will be addressing the symposium, as will other prominent Canadian and federal and provincial political leaders. Mr. Deepak Chopra, the CEO of Canada Post, will be delivering the keynote address.

"The Canada-India Business Symposium will give concrete directions to our efforts at increasing bilateral business," said Mr. Dinesh Bhatia, the Consul General of India in Toronto. The symposium is divided into three panel discussions on subjects relevant to both the Canadian and the Indian economies.

"Our aim is to look beyond the horizon and plan for a future that is likely to emerge soon after the bilateral negotiations on CEPA and FIPPA conclude into agreements," said Mr. Arun Srivastava, the President of Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC). 

Representatives of the participating companies will spend three days in Toronto where they will engage in business meetings with Canadian firms. They will also receive briefings on investment, visit potential partners and manufacturers, and participate in networking events.
