Canada joins other countries to promote climate action and global clean growth

BERLIN, Germany, May 24, 2017 /CNW/ - Climate change is a global problem that requires global action. Canada is committed to doing its part and to working with others to promote climate action and clean growth solutions at home and around the world.

The Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, today concluded a visit to Germany where she worked to sustain momentum in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. While there, she met with the President of Fiji and her counterparts from Germany, China, France, the European Union, Chile, South Africa, Fiji, Indonesia and the Marshall Islands. They discussed the importance of climate action and the economic opportunities in the global shift towards cleaner growth.

At the Petersberg Dialogue climate talks, the Minister chaired a session on Climate Change and Sustainable Economic Growth and was a panelist at a conference organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Both offered the opportunity to discuss how climate action spurs clean growth, including the importance of pricing pollution to grow a clean economy.

While in Berlin, Minister McKenna also hosted a meeting with her counterparts from China and the European Union. Together they committed to advance ambitious climate action by co-hosting a ministerial meeting in September.

Finally, in Weilrod, Germany, the Minister visited a wind farm owned by German renewable company, ABO Wind. Located in the Hesse forest, this renewable energy project demonstrates ABO Wind's grass roots approach to development by working closely with local communities.
