Citywide Radio Campaign Raises Funds to Support Youth Summer Jobs Program

CHICAGO, May 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Robert R. McCormick Foundation and the City of Chicago, along with 47 Chicagoland stations, are launching a citywide radio fundraising campaign for One Summer Chicago 2017, a McCormick Foundation Fund, that will run through June 30. WGN-AM Radio 720 is helping to kick-off the campaign by hosting a 24-hour Radiothon beginning Tuesday morning, May 23, at 6am.

One Summer Chicago 2017 seeks to enhance opportunities offered through Mayor Rahm Emanuel's successful youth employment program. The program helps teens and young adults ages 14-24 improve their futures by providing more than 31,000 jobs, internships, and other meaningful experiences. It aims to build stronger, safer communities while keeping some of the city's most at-risk youth engaged, active, and learning new skills during the summer months.

Donations to One Summer Chicago 2017 support local nonprofits that engage youth around summer jobs and internships, peace initiatives, college readiness programs, neighborhood beautification projects, and other opportunities.

"We are so honored that 47 radio stations citywide stepped forward to help us amplify One Summer Chicago 2017 fundraising efforts," said David Hiller, President and CEO. "This campaign gives Chicagoans the opportunity to help bring summer opportunities to young people, keeping them on a pathway to high school graduation and career success."

The McCormick Foundation is paying all campaign and administrative expenses so no donations are used for fundraising costs or overhead. This means 100% of donations to One Summer Chicago 2017 are tax-deductible and will impact kids in local, high-need communities.
