V? Digital secures U.S. patent for its integrated personalized content recommendation and management system and method

RIDGELAND, Miss., May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- V? Digital, a Mississippi-based video metadata company, recently received a patent related to its breakthrough technology that aggregates Internet content from multiple online sources and geolocations and provides users with personalized recommendations at the push of a button.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently issued Patent No. 9,641,631 (Integrated Personalized Content Recommendation and Management System and Method) to V?, which originally filed for the invention in 2014.  The patent covers certain aspects of V?'s content aggregation tools, which can work in web browsers and on mobile platforms, presenting highly relevant recommendations to users in popular areas like news, sports and entertainment online content.

"Our technology uses algorithms that tackle the most vexing part of personalization ? the actual learning part," said Wade Smith, vice president of operations for V? Digital.  "Anyone can predict and recommend content, but V? can aggregate content over multiple sources and present it back to users in a highly personal manner."

Content personalization is considered the holy grail of the emerging content marketing discipline, but most companies struggle to create more personalized, insight-driven content ? burdened by technology challenges and inadequate resources, according to recent 2016 studies and research by Forrester Consulting and Demand Metric.

Smith said V?'s technology understands words and language, which enables the tools to deftly interpret users' intent as they browse multiple sites.  "The explosion of content, especially rich media and video, has created a virtual data tsunami, which requires a true personalized experience to help consumers find and consume the content they want and need," he added.

V?'s latest initiative is an outgrowth of its content personalization efforts and led to the development of a video-to-data (V2D) product to help content providers better monetize their video assets.  The V2D product, which has three patents pending, allows video to be analyzed as text so that it can be understood and personalized just like other text-based content.

"Research shows that video content will soon occupy up to as much as 80 percent of the world's data that people encounter and consume," Smith said.  "Everything produced and published ranging from classrooms to churches to movie producers and online publishers will be primarily video, which means V2D will play a critical role in content discovery."

A key outgrowth of V?'s V2D focus has been development of a customized law enforcement user interface using key facial recognition and audio transcription technology.  Last year, V? rolled out a video and audio management simplification tool for use by local law enforcement agencies and police officers outfitted with body cameras.

And last month V? introduced a new Unified Digital Evidence (UDE) software technology solution for law enforcement agencies and criminal prosecutors ? moving beyond body camera video to include jail cells, interviews, interrogations, dispatch calls, dash-cam videos and more.

In 2015, V? received the TMC communications solution product of the year award for its V2D solution.  The company was among 118 firms recognized by TMC, a global integrated media conglomerate and leading source of news and information for the communications and technology industries worldwide.  In addition to the TMC awards, Vu Digital was selected to participate in the National Association of Broadcasters' year-long SPROKIT accelerator program for innovative startups in media and entertainment.

About V? Digital
V? Digital was formed through a commitment to delivering new and innovative solutions for digital content.  V?'s Video-to-Data (V2D) product instantly converts video and audio into the machine-readable medium that search engines, databases, natural language processing (NLP), and distributors know and love best: words.  The core technology includes splitting a video into two components: audio and video frames.  Both components are then processed using automated speed recognition (ASR), text extraction from images and facial and image recognition.  The output is metadata that includes time-stamped references to individual frames.  This industry-first approach enables video classification/clustering, search engine indexing and content personalization, including targeted advertising.  V?'s algorithms and the use of an advanced architecture for distributing jobs for processing are patent pending and are one-of-a-kind in the marketplace.  V? is headquartered in Ridgeland, Miss. and is an affiliate of C Spire, a Mississippi-based diversified telecommunications and technology services company.  For more information, visit www.vudigital.com.
