/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Urban Worker Skillshare Series offers tools and support to Toronto's precarious workers/

TORONTO, April 25, 2017 /CNW/ - On Saturday, April 29, freelancers, contract employees and solopreneurs across Toronto will come together at Centennial College's Story Arts Centre for the Urban Worker Skillshare Series ? a full day of workshops, discussions, mini-consultations and networking focused on the realities of today's changing workplaces.

The Urban Worker Project has teamed up with Centennial College and other partner organizations to connect urban workers with lawyers, accountants and experts across all areas of modern work. Topics will include budgeting and financial planning, taxes, rate setting, contract writing, branding, working remotely, invoicing and getting paid on time. The event will also mark the launch of a toolkit comprised of sample invoices and contracts, tax guides, rate calculators and budgeting tools all aimed at contract workers and the self-employed.

"The nature of work is rapidly changing, yet the policies in place to protect and support workers are stuck in the past," says Andrew Cash, former NDP MP and co-founder of the Urban Worker Project. "So it is vital for independent workers to come together to share skills, expertise and to reflect on how we build a new framework that reflects the reality of work today. Centennial College has made a significant commitment to engaging on this issue and we are excited to present with them the first Toronto Urban Worker Skillshare."

Registration is pay-what-you-can and open to everyone at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/urban-worker-skillshare-toronto-tickets-33292558940

The event begins at 10 am and will finish with a party from 6 to 8 pm. It is the second in the series; the Urban Worker Project hosted a similar event in Vancouver on April 8. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/pg/urbanworkerca/events/.
