Second 2016 Census of Population release: Age, sex, and type of dwelling

OTTAWA, April 26, 2017 /CNW/ - Next week, Statistics Canada will turn its focus toward who Canadians are, and the places they call home. As Canada continues to mark its 150^th anniversary, the agency will release the second installment of its year-long census story of our country and its people.

Data on age, sex and types of dwellings will be published at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time on May 3, 2017, on Statistics Canada's website.

The age and sex release will show results at the national, provincial, territorial and sub-provincial levels. In addition, two Census in Brief articles will examine current population trends. The first will unveil the portrait of the population aged 85 and older in 2016 in Canada. The second will examine recent trends among the population aged 15 to 64.

Also released that day will be a Census in Brief article that presents the types of dwellings Canadians live in?whether they be detached houses, apartments, or collectives such as seniors' residences.

As with the first release, the story of Canada, as seen through the 2016 Census, is being told in words and pictures in a variety of mediums, through infographics and a video.

Over the coming months, Statistics Canada will continue to release results from the 2016 Census of Population, and provide an even more comprehensive picture of the Canadian population. Data and analysis on the following topics will be released throughout 2017:

• families, households, marital status and language (August 2, 2017)
• income (September 13, 2017)
• immigration, ethnocultural diversity, housing and Aboriginal peoples (October 25, 2017)
• education, labour, journey to work, language of work, mobility and migration (November 29, 2017).
