ClearOne Awarded a New Patent on Echo Cancellation using Beamforming Microphones from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

SALT LAKE CITY, April 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ClearOne (NASDAQ: CLRO), a global provider of audio and visual communication solutions, has been awarded a new patent on a system and method for combining echo cancellation and beamforming microphone arrays. This patented technology is one of many innovations that help ClearOne conferencing systems to provide the best, clearest, and most intelligible audio possible.

"ClearOne's extensive patent portfolio is an important core asset protecting our groundbreaking technology and representing significant value for the company," said Zee Hakimoglu, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our history of investing in new ideas and technology that enable market transformation in our industry is a key differentiator and has established ClearOne as an innovation leader. We are particularly excited about this patent as it underpins 'acoustic intelligence' of our award-winning Beamforming Microphone Array."

On April 25, 2017, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued United States Patent number 9,635,186 entitled "A Conferencing Apparatus that combines a Beamforming Microphone Array with an Acoustic Echo Canceller." The '186 patent covers, among other things, the method of first using a beamforming algorithm to generate several fixed beams, followed by performing acoustic echo cancellation on each beam, selecting a beam for transmission, and inhibiting the system from switching beams when the remote party speaks. Without this protection, whenever the remote party speaks they may hear noise fluctuations, distortions, and/or ambient sound changes that detract from conference quality and clarity.

This new patent is part of ClearOne's growing patent portfolio that currently includes over 100 patents and pending patent applications covering multiple new technologies in the fields of audio and video processing, audio and video streaming, and communication technologies. This ongoing development of new patents continues ClearOne's market leadership position, strong history of product innovation, and development of cutting-edge technologies.
