GTL Acquires Corrections Patents From Verizon

RESTON, Va., April 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GTL, an innovation leader in correctional technology and payment services solutions for government, today announced that it has acquired a portfolio of telecommunications, messaging, and inmate visitation patents from Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc. These patents complement other patents that GTL previously acquired when it purchased the MCI Department of Corrections line of business from Verizon Business Services in 2007.

"It is fitting that these patents have come home to GTL, reuniting aspects of the Verizon portfolio with GTL and some of the inventors who helped create that technology while at MCI, and who have remained GTL employees," said GTL CEO Brian Oliver. "The acquisition of this portfolio of corrections patents strengthens GTL's position in traditional technologies, as well as emerging technologies, that are critical to the corrections industry," Oliver said. "This transaction is a true complement to GTL's industry leading patent portfolio and will offer new capabilities to protect our inventions in the marketplace."
