GTL Bolsters Patent Portfolio with Non-Scheduled Video Visitation Patent

RESTON, Va., March 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GTL, an innovation leader in correctional technology and payment services solutions for government, today announced that the USPTO issued U.S. Patent No. 9,558,523, entitled Secure Non-Scheduled Video Visitation System to GTL, identifying Stephen Hodge, GTL Senior VP of Research & Development as the inventor. Video visitation is an important service offered to inmates that often assists in their rehabilitation and reintroduction into society. Nonetheless, there are significant challenges to its use to ensure security and avoid placing unreasonable burdens on corrections industry personnel to schedule and monitor video visitations. The '523 patent addresses these challenges by providing a novel way of integrating voice biometrics, speech recognition, facial recognition and kinematic modeling of the human body to support non-scheduled video visitation.

"We are delighted to receive this patent that recognizes our leadership in the video visitation space," said GTL CEO Brian Oliver. "Steve has an extensive track record of creating inventions to address industry challenges that better serve our customers. We are extremely proud of his efforts, and perhaps even more importantly his efforts to further enhance our culture of innovation and build a strong patent program," concluded Oliver.

"GTL has always been an innovation leader," added Hodge. "Over the last few years we have worked to develop our patent program to further stimulate our innovation and protect our inventions.  We have strengthened our internal processes including putting together a Patent Committee to ensure we protect our innovation with strong patents and have created a patent incentive program for our very talented and creative employees," noted Hodge. "I am excited about our patent developments and expect that our efforts laying a strong foundation will really show results in 2017," concluded Hodge.
